Side-splitting..Every parent experiencing the departure of a child ought to read your amusing, tongue-in-cheek thoughts about parental emotions at this important moment for families. Thank you, Sheila.
Thank you, dear Dimitri. So glad it made you laugh. The whole experience kept me laughing...and still does. :) Sending you both loads of love. And thank you, as always, for being my loyal reader. xx
Lovely piece. Your story makes my feelings fresh again. My kids left almost seven years ago. At that time I was finishing the Oberoi Hotel, New Dehli. I was flying continuously there and the team - from client to workers had banned the polite question about: how are the twins going... no one handle to see my eyes wide open with tears. Is a great experience seeing our children taking off. Still it hurts! Bravo Sheila, you manage to make the moment light and romantic. AR
Very moving to read this and so beautifully written too. I did indeed shed a tear , remembering my four children each 'leaving the nest' and heading off to distant Universities . Just Loved the very humourous story of the
large DJ box being ferried around to Puglia , Rome and Milan in the car too.
Thank you Sheila and best of luck to your son this year too
Wonderful reflections about those giant steps our dual national kids go through to find the right place in their world(s) I remember moving to the seaside house in Tuscany every June for the long 3 months away from Rome driving my tiny FIAT 500 stuffed with kids, cats, summer stuff .

I loved this. I hope that the vicarious sorrow helps me prepare for when our Luca launches—my warmest wishes to you all in this transition
Ah yes, the elephant in the room indeed, its emanating beats along with your heart. (or something like that!) Loved this.
